No. 8 Boekkunst en Grafiek, By Jan Poortenaar
Although this book is entirely in Dutch — by the artist, writer, and editor Jan Poortenaar — the sequences of pages are absolutely mesmerizing, with great illustrations, photos and facsimiles. Even the illegible text has a hypnotic effect…in a rugged typeface based on early Renaissance printing & bristling with superabundant k’s, j’s and z’s. There is a progression from history of printing & letterforms on to the practical questions, e.g. of printing graphics or music. At the end there are nearly a hundred pages of tipped-in examples of fine printing and type display. Published in 1934.
